The Medusa Project is a series of sculptures inspired by bull kelp which is iconic to the waters off of Vancouver Island. My first introduction was at Finlayson Point where I noticed this pile of 'snake like' creatures sleeping along the shoreline. After closer inspection I
realized that this was
some sort of marine
plant that had no
resemblance to what I
was use to growing up
in fresh water lakes in
Ontario. As I preceded
to venture further along
the shoreline I witnessed the Medusa Dance as the bull kelp swayed in the water which has stuck with me ever since.
The sculptures that I have created are no means anatomically correct. They are mere representations and strive to illustrate the graceful movements and currents of the ocean.
